Bert has Redwing #89,
Lady Elaine, built in 1969, and he sails out of Crescent Yacht Club in Chaumont, NY (on Lake Ontario).

He writes, "We acquired
Lady Elaine in the spring of 2004 right here in Chaumont where she had been stored for the winter. When we bought her she was called
My Lady. She was renamed
Lady Elaine in honor of my wife Elaine."

Like any old sailboat,
Lady Elaine needed some work. "The boat was in quite good condition when we acquired her," Bert says, "but we have made a number of changes and improvements: we purchased two new head sails, a 150% no. 1 and a number 3; we had a spinnaker from our old boat modified to fit; and we have 3 head sails and 3 spinnakers (one asymmetric); removed the roller furler; fitted a Martec folding prop; and replaced all belts, hoses and ignition parts on the A-4 (which is original and runs great). I refinished the interior using Epifanes rubbed effect varnish, which I highly recommend." This is the same varnish
Redwing has for the interior. It gives a warm, mellow vibe, especially when the setting sun gets in there and mixes with it.

And like other Redwing owners Bert has noticed the speed. The boat really sails so nicely that racing is inevitable. Bert has raced once: "we have entered only one race since we bought the boat and we won first place. We use her mainly for day-sailing and cruising, but I always like to have her moving at the best possible speed."
